Fighting for Collective Liberation
Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO Seattle Chapter
APALA envisions a society where economic and racial justice prevails, human rights and worker dignity are affirmed, and where a healthy, sustainable planet is able to offer a better life for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Black, brown, and Indigenous folks, and all communities fighting oppression.
Who We Are
Founded in 1992, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), AFL-CIO, is the first and only national organization of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) workers. Backed with strong support of the AFL-CIO, APALA has more than 20 chapters and pre-chapters and a national office in Washington, D.C.
What We Do
Education
Educating Asian Pacific American workers and their communities about labor unions as well as issues that directly impact their communities (i.e. politics, labor laws, history, etc). We also encourage and provide education of other communities to our causes, issues, and projects for collaboration and understanding
Training
Promoting and providing training for Asian Pacific Americans within the labor movement and Asian Pacific American communities
Leadership
Building up Asian Pacific Americans within the labor movement and Asian Pacific American communities to lead the change for the future
Empowerment
Of Asian Pacific Americans within the labor movement and Asian Pacific American communities to address the injustices they face and to stand up for their rights
Advocacy
Defending and advocating for the civil and human rights of Asian Pacific Americans, immigrants; undocumented, refugees, asylees, and all other people of color. We believe for showing up for our communities and others to express our beliefs and the work we find important and necessary
Collaboration
With community organizations and unorganized workers to advance AAPI justice. We also work to create collaboration between our communities and other communities of color in order to understanding and allyship. Developing ties with international labor organizations, especially with labor unions in Asia and the Pacific, and seeking to promote world peace
